AI is better understood as Learned Intelligence
The “Intelligence” in “AI”, simply refers to the ability to “Learn”, understand and solve problems that it has been trained to solve following patterns learned from human training.
So, when you hear the word “Artificial intelligence”, think of it this way. It simply means that, humans originally created it, then trained machines (computers) to rephrase it in various ways. AI, did not come from nature. It came from what humans showed and trained it on, representing nature.
The “Intelligence” in “AI”, simply refers to the ability to “Learn”, understand and solve problems that it has been trained to solve following patterns learned from human training.
Comparing Human Intelligence to AI is quite misleading. While humans are creative, have emotions and feelings, can take decisions based on emotions and so on, AI will have to be trained to accomplish any of those. AI has no emotions nor feelings. While, it’s assumed smartness has to come from training, humans don’t have to be trained for such.
So while AI can do many smart things following rules and patterns, it remains no match for human creativity. Bottom line is, the true definition of “Intelligence” in Artificial Intelligence, depends on how “Intelligence is defined.
So, we call it "artificial" because it’s made by humans and doesn’t think or feel like humans do. It's however a very powerful tool that can do many smart things that it has been trained to do, but it’s still different from human intelligence.
The term “Artificial Intelligence” suggests a kind of intelligence similar to human thinking and creativity. However, AI is more about learning from vast amounts of data and recognizing patterns to provide responses, make decisions and give answers to questions. This process is more accurately described as "Learned Intelligence." While the name "Artificial Intelligence" is widely accepted and understood, recognizing AI as learned intelligence helps us better understand its capabilities and limitations.
